Root canal treatment enables you to preserve a tooth that has become infected.

Root canal treatment often takes place over 2 appointments. During your first appointment, infected tissue will be removed from inside your tooth. You will be given a local anaesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable for you. You will then receive a temporary filling to make sure that the infection does not return before your treatment is completed.
At your second appointment, a permanent restoration will be placed to seal the tooth and prevent infection from spreading to the surrounding bone. Your dentist will be able to advise on the most appropriate restoration for your tooth, for example, a filling, crown or onlay.
