Dental crowns are a restorative treatment for decayed and broken teeth.
A crown is a way of restoring a decayed, damaged or broken tooth. You may need a crown if:
- Your tooth is not suitable for a filling;
- To protect a tooth after root canal treatment;
- To support a bridge;
- To improve the appearance of discoloured fillings.
Crowns provide a natural-looking restoration that functions like a normal tooth. Crowns can be made from metal, porcelain or ceramic. Our dentists will be able to advise on the best option for your tooth.
Placing a crown normally requires 2 appointments. During your first appointment, we will prepare your tooth ready to receive the crown before taking an impression so that the dental laboratory can make a bespoke crown to fit your mouth. We will use a local anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort.
Once the dental laboratory has made your crown, you will have a second appointment for your crown to be fitted.
