A bridge is a technique to permanently replace a missing tooth or teeth.
A bridge is essentially a prosthetic tooth or teeth used to ‘bridge’ a gap in the mouth.
A bridge is usually made of porcelain, which can be carefully matched to blend with your natural teeth, providing a durable and aesthetic replacement.
The prosthetic tooth or teeth are traditionally attached to crowned teeth on either side of the gap. Where teeth on either side of the gap are strong and healthy, an alternative is an adhesive bridge where the teeth are held in place by a metal plate, which is bonded directly to the natural teeth on either side.
Our dentists will thoroughly assess your teeth and gums to check your suitability for a bridge as well as advise you of any other options that are available to you.
Bridge treatment normally takes place over 2 appointments. During the first appointment for a traditional bridge, the teeth on either side will be prepared in readiness for crowns. We will use a local anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort.
For both types of bridges, impressions will be taken so that your bridge can be custom-made in a dental laboratory. Once your bridge is ready, you will return for your fit appointment.
